Broadband in South Gloucestershire

Access to the internet is increasingly an essential part of everyday life. South Gloucestershire Council is committed to ensuring that all residents and businesses have access to fast, reliable and affordable broadband, and the social and economic benefits that it can bring.

The Government’s vision is that the UK will have the best superfast broadband network in Europe by 2015.

Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) funding bid

South Gloucestershire Council is working to access matched funding from the Government to improve broadband coverage in South Gloucestershire.

The private sector broadband market will be providing superfast broadband to around two-thirds of communities over the next few years. However, it is essential that homes and businesses in areas in the remaining third of our communities are not left behind. The aim of the broadband funding is to use public investment to subsidise the provision of infrastructure required for faster broadband in those areas where it will not be provided by the private sector market.
Get involved

With your support, the council aims to encourage commercial suppliers to invest in infrastructure in South Gloucestershire by demonstrating that families, businesses and communities in South Gloucestershire want and need faster broadband.
